Bathroom Fittings and Fixtures: A Buying Guide

Today's bathrooms are becoming more and more spa-like. There is a wider range of products, offering a greater range of new technology and energy efficiencies, than ever before. This primer will help you choose the fittings and fixtures that will best serve your aesthetic, your needs, and your budget.

Define Your Style

Bathroom fittings can make a powerful design statement. Choose well, and they elevate the look of your space in much the same way a piece of artwork elevates a room. While the options for fittings may seem dizzying, fear not. Your contractor or design professional can help you figure out which type of fittings will work best in your bath. From there, the real fun begins as you hone in on the styles and finishes you love.

Whether your tastes run to sleek and contemporary or time-honored and traditional, the perfect fittings exist just for you.

Sink Faucets

Faucets come in many configurations, from single or double handle to counter mount to wall mount. Since many sinks are pre-drilled to accommodate a particular style of faucet, it helps to coordinate your sink and faucet purchases. Some sinks are drilled to accept only centerset faucets (four-inch spread), others can accept only widespread faucets (eight-inch spread), and some sinks aren't drilled at all in expectation that the faucet will mount to the wall or countertop. Before shopping for faucets in earnest, familiarize yourself with any space or structural limitations you'll need to accommodate.
