"As for the future, your task is not to foresee it, but to enable it"
In order for sustainable design to become normative design, we, the designers, need to be vigilant and knowledgeable in all areas that touch design at the edges - sciences like sociology, psychology, ecology and chemistry - not just the arts. This will take effort and time, but it will pay off for everyone. If we design for the greater good as a matter of course, we will make a greater impact than any one project or building, or even an entire body of work. Those buildings that are designed and built sustainably will continue to affect the world long after we - the designers, the owners, the original occupants, - are gone. That is a legacy we can all live with.
