I bring my love of cooking and entertaining to my practice of kitchen design, creating culinary spaces that enhance the joy of preparing and sharing meals with family and friends.

Kitchens don't necessarily have to be large, have all the latest professional equipment, or follow so-called rules. But after 30-plus years of kitchen design--and even more of cooking--I believe beautiful custom kitchens must be intuitive and welcoming.

Karen Williams, Principal, St. Charles of New York
Kitchen Designer & Interior Space Planner

Passionate about design, cooking and entertaining, Karen Williams, principal, St. Charles of New York, is a nationally recognized award-winning creator of highly custom kitchens and interior spaces for discerning clients in the New York area, as well as nationally and internationally.

As an accomplished cook, she brings special insights to the design of beautiful and functional kitchens with hallmark Signature Elements she has developed during more than 30 years as a sought-after kitchen designer.

Williams, an allied ASID member, studied interior design at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, and is now a principal of St. Charles of New York, an independent boutique kitchen design firm. She regularly travels the globe, searching out the latest trends and resources, and attending cooking classes.

She has studied at the Escoffier and at La Cornue in Paris, and attended demonstrations with Charlie Trotter in Chicago. Closer to home, she has taken classes with Jean Georges' pastry chef Johnny Iuzzini (who taught her to make marshmallows) and The Four Seasons Chefs de Cuisine Pecko Zantilaveevan and Larry Finn.

With her unique blend of talents, it's no wonder Williams has designed kitchens and interior spaces for prominent New Yorkers like Union Square chef Michael Romano and celebrity jewelry designer Joan Hornig, as well as created test kitchens for Food & Wine magazine.

Clients appreciate Williams' singular focus on their individual needs and lifestyles. Whether she is working on an historic landmark home by architect A. Hays Town in Baton Rouge, a restored barn in Sag Harbor, an English castle in Westchester or a new French chateau-style home in Florida, this versatile kitchen designer finds exactly the right style for each.

Prominent architects and interior designers often seek her out as a collaborator on projects like these.

Williams, a member of the Institute for Classical Art & Architecture, has participated in three renowned Kips Bay Decorator Show Houses and an ASID show house for the Scarsdale Women's Club.

Her projects regularly appear in national magazines such as Traditional Home, Kitchen Trends, and Beautiful Kitchens & Baths. She is the exclusive kitchen design columnist for the upscale lifestyle magazine East Coast Home + Design.

Williams has appeared on CBS News Sunday Morning and been profiled on and The Kitchen/Bath Industry Show, Farrow & Ball, and Hafele have all invited her to speak about kitchen design trends.

Williams' Tribeca loft kitchen recently took first place for the New York region in the prestigious Sub-Zero/Wolf Kitchen Design Contest. Yet her greatest reward still comes when clients enjoy their new, one-of-a-kind spaces.
