2010 NKBA Design Competition - Open Plan Kitchen: Second Place

The clients' initial goal for their 1980's contemporary style home was an open and sleek space that affords a warm environment for regular entertaining. The island serves as a focal point, while also providing preparation, cook and serving space. It features high heat gas and electric cooking, along with a prep sink. From top to bottom, the kitchen is wrapped in warmth by alder veneer cabinetry and wood flooring, accented by nine feet of stainless refrigerators, ovens, and a farm sink. Polished granite counters, a custom-designed glass bar and dining table, and glass tile backsplashes highlighted by low fixtures add spots of high-sheen surface throughout the room. This kitchen is a masterful and inventive blend of technology, innovation, and the art of design.
