Formal Traditional Living & Family Room by Timothy Corrigan
Rather than designing an area to simply accommodate his client's impressive wine collection, Timothy Corrigan crafted an inviting interior where it would be the star attraction. From nearly every vantage point, prized labels steal the spotlight, quietly supported by floor-to-ceiling mahogany cabinetry, refrigerated by Newbury Park-based Cellar Masters, Inc., to a vintage-friendly 55 degrees. The cabinets are beautifully lit inside, so at night the wine almost becomes the art of the room. The bright 800-square-foot room, central to the 1926 English Tudor house, holds some 1,200 bottles of wine. Off to one side, an English Regency dining table with a satinwood inlay is set up in a bay window nook, the perfect site for intimate tastings. The custom sofa and couch from Timothy Corrigan, Inc. are covered in a cream fabric. An 18th century English mahogany display cabinet holds the client's own collection of antique silver card cases. To punch up the mostly neutral palette, Timothy anchored the room with a colorful Tabriz rug, added burgundy and blue velvet throw pillows and scattered an unexpected mix of antiques and accessories, including a rustic Italian wood carving of a grape farmer and a set of 1930s Italian gilt-wood sunburst mirrors. Corrigan upholstered the antique mahogany dining chairs in a friendly blue and white geometric pattern that does doubly duty as a lighthearted touch and camouflage for any red wine spills.
