Dramatic Transitional Dining Room by Jeanine Bennett
Light Coloniale Travertine replaced the cream wool carpet and blue & cream Delft tile that was in the entryway and kitchen. The insert that borders the entry, dining room, and kitchen is a bas-relief inlay that visually joins the rooms into one. So dramatic was the change, that updating the grand crystal chandelier with gold lined black silk lantern shades really set the tone for the entire space. As we removed the chiffon double balloon valances & drapes, we surmised that they must have used 100 yards of fabric in the construction! I replaced them with 3 shades of green slubby silk styled into a more tailored tuxedo valance. Adorned with large 2.5" buttons, the stationary drapery panels are trimmed with the same silk on the leading edge. The heavy weighted interlining gives the panels a rich malleable body which was needed for bulk in the appropriate scale. Two large glass curios flank the opposite side of the room and hold family heirlooms and other eclectic treasures.
