Stately Country/Rustic Kitchen by Courtney Lawrence Ziething
Sub-Zero and Wolf 2013-2014 Kitchen Design Contest: Designers Choice. Designer Courtney Ziething loves a challenge. But a kitchen/great room big enough for hundreds of guests, and professional enough for visiting chefs? "The sheer enormity of the space required a variety of solutions," says Courtney. She integrated numerous Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and designed an imposing 20 foot long reclaimed oak dining table with 22 chairs, each unique in style, stain, finish and upholstery. She also placed a long solid slab wood bar table and nook table in the space, for more casual dining, and to accommodate additional guests. This feature allows additional space for serving and preparing gourmet meals while viewing the "live kitchen" in action, when guest chefs are on site. This is a second home for her clients, where they wanted to create a resort-like setting in the desert for their guests, as well as the guests of their teenaged sons. In addition to creating the expansive kitchen/great room space, Courtney had to design not only a state-of-the-art kitchen that would accommodate professional chefs, but also an additional full kitchen, side by side to the main kitchen, but able to be closed off, and accessible to the outdoors – it includes a Wolf outdoor grill in lieu of a range. The back kitchen has a bar counter with bi-folding glass windows that open to the backyard, and bar seating for twenty people.
