An active family expands their living to the lower level of this classic home with a modern aesthetic. With technical challenges that accompany such a remodel, like lower ceilings, existing ductwork, and structural columns, a minimal aesthetic is used to keep clutter at bay. The media and fireplace wall become a focal point, using monochromatic 'floating planes' to differentiate the various uses while creating an artful composition. Light white walls and ceilings allow playful orange accents to enliven the space. And in the laundry, function marries style providing an enjoyable space for the necessary activity.
