Hometown - Born in Connecticut and raised on the coast of Maine, Matthew Kenney now lives in New York City.

The Written Word - Matthew is the author of Matthew Kenney's Mediterranean Cooking: Great Flavors for the American Kitchen (Chronicle Books) and in 1994 was named one of Food & Wine's "Ten Best New Chefs in America."

Claim to Fame - In his 10-year career as a chef, restaurateur Matthew Kenney has delighted his patrons with his delicious interpretations of Mediterranean, North African, and Middle Eastern cuisine. He is famous for recipes that fuse creativity with a studious knowledge of flavors and ingredients. According to Sam Gugino, co-author of Matthew Kenney's Mediterranean Cooking, Matthew is "one of the foremost interpreters or Mediterranean cuisine in America. His food is exotic sounding, lovely to look at and always delicious. But most important, it's food you can cook with your family and friends."

Also of Interest - Matthew owns several restaurants in New York City, including Commune, Canteen, Mezze, and Matthews. His newest restaurant, Commissary, is opening November 10 in Portland, Maine. Soon to follow will be Commune Atlanta. Matthew recently launched a line of products called Modern Fare, which can be found at Fairway and Graces on 71st Street in New York City.
