"Children naturally seem to know what they need. Like magpie nests, their rooms are typically a collection of favorite things. They reside in a spirit-filled place of curiosity and joyous expression."
-Kellee Katillac,

For some kids, their own room — without brother or sister — is just a dream. But even if it's shared with one or two siblings, every kid's room can be a cozy nest. Give children a space and let them fill it with everything they love. Offer them a private space for expressing their personality, conveying their creativity, and exploring their imagination. A great room gives kids the go-ahead to live and laugh and play just the way they want. Of course, it should have everything kids need, and look good too. So, start with solid furniture that will grow with them and branch out from there, into rugs and lamps and wall hangings. Involve them in the decision-making, because a great kids' room shouldn't just delight mom and dad — it should be a place where the kids will delight in what they love, an individual space they'll fill with all the things they've ever gathered, created, or treasured. Three distinct rooms, furnished with what kids need and filled to the brim with stuff they love, show you just how dreamy kids' rooms can be.

  • smart space: Fun and fresh, this room is cool enough to entice the most sophisticated kid.
  • pretty cool: Vibrant colors, plenty of patterns, and clever storage add up to a room that's both stimulating and smart.
  • child's play: A light-hearted room with painted furniture and playful pieces is just right for young kids.
