Design Themes: Best of Show, ICFF 2003
furniture | kitchen & bath | garden

Contemporary furniture often gets a bad rap: cold, uncomfortable and too strong an emphasis on style over substance. Our favorite furniture from the recent ICFF shows how wrong these stereotypes can be.

We loved the colorful and creative children's furniture, perfect for making the most of a small space. A cherry crib was handsome, not babyish with a life that extends beyond the bedroom. A platform bed made the most of under-bed space by incorporating a bookcase and easily accessed storage under the mattress. The clean lines and warmth of a round dining table and desk would make them compatible with more traditional furnishings. The sunshine colors and exuberance of our favorite rug from the show made us long to redecorate our dining room, letting the rug take center stage.
