New England Style in San Francisco

The buoyant color scheme — melon, indigo blue, daffodil yellow, shots of turquoise — is inspired by everything from French country interiors to folk art to Charleston.

Charleston is the English farm where artists in the 1920s created one of history's most extraordinary homegrown interiors. It was a kid-friendly place, too, something the Ubbens would have identified with. Natural and indirect lighting were used here instead of traditional table lamps, whose cords would pose a hazard to three playful children and two rambunctious dogs.
