Kips Bay
Decorator Show House

New York, NY

A pair of 19th-century Japanese screens inspired the palette of Thomas Britt's drop-dead glamorous living room, with its shiny black wood floor, gold silk and deep blue velvet upholstery, 1940s Venetian-style mirror and fine art work.

The guiding principle is positive-negative: a Kenneth Noland sunburst painting contrasts with a dark bronze Buddha, the deep blue upholstery with the pale wood of the Robsjohn-Gibbings 1940s chairs, a red Louis XV bracket clock with black and white drawings by Al Held.
