In the master bedroom, custom draperies hang down from the oak-trimmed soffits. When it's frosty outside, they provide extra insulation, and perimeter downlighting creates a cozy glow.
The bed backs up to an east-facing casement with Lake Michigan 20 miles off in the distance. In warmer weather, the Hoopmans open the doors out onto the adjacent deck. The simple ceiling fan—also useful for summer months—was painted white to fade into the ceiling.
