In the kitchen, vintage beams add structural support and textural interest.

These rough-hewn timbers, rescued from an old warehouse, visually link the original part of the house with the new addition. Neutral paint on the beadboard cabinets creates a warm, mellow look. Countertops, which are poured concrete tinted the color of old leather, add a rugged touch. The old worktable doubles as a buffet station for parties. A built-in refrigerator and microwave oven along with a gourmet range add modern amenities the family needs to accommodate frequent visitors.
