The Lallys weren't interested in unlimited space, just adequately functioning spaces and getting the wonderful views and light into the rooms.
The Lallys were limited in their renovation options because the house was so close to the water. So they added onto the footprint on the north and west and expanded upwards into a two-story tower. Fred Hahn designed additions in blocks—an octagonal tower, a rectangular foyer, and fan-shaped kitchen.
