Here are some basic guidelines on sizing for knobs and pulls:
  • Knobs are measured by diameter, and come in sizes ranging from 1/2" to 1 1/2"; most cabinets take knobs in the 3/4" to 1" range.
  • Pulls are measured by center-to-center distance, or the distance between the centers of the mounting holes.
  • Wood knobs have a subtle appearance, and therefore usually look smaller than metal knobs.
  • Contemporary pulls are often designed to cover the entire length of the drawer.
  • Some contemporary pulls are flush to the surface of the drawer front, and cannot be installed without cutting and reworking the existing doors or drawer fronts.
  • If you're using different sizes, use the larger sizes closer to the floor for a balanced look.
  • The typical kitchen will require around 50 knobs and pulls.
