Indirect lighting uniformly lights your home office. A torchiere or indirect wall sconce will cast light into the wall and ceiling that will then reflect back into the room. Using these kinds of fixtures effectively turns ceiling and walls into light sources. Light comes from all directions, and shadows are minimized, at least in light-colored rooms with matte ceiling and wall surfaces. Glossy finishes act like mirrors and don't evenly diffuse light; direct reflections from bulbs will show up as glaring hot spots. But indirect lighting does have a drawback. The uniformity that makes it visually comfortable can make the room appear flat, because shadows are greatly reduced. Punctuating this flatness with will make the home office more visually interesting, but you've got to be careful not to add anything too bright.
