Many of us have some sort of home office. It can be a dedicated room or a piece of a larger space. Perhaps even now you're in your home office reading this. Is the sun streaming in? Or are you curled up in a pool of light cast by a favorite floor lamp, taking a restful moment after putting the kids to sleep? Either way, some combination of light and lighting is at play.

There are three forms of lighting:
  • Ambient lighting is the general, overall illumination of a room that allows us to see the layout and help us safely through the space.
  • Task lighting is for the specific work we do in the space.
  • Accent lighting is used to highlight certain features in a room, such as artwork or architecture.
Ambient and task lighting are the most important forms of lighting in a home office.
  • Indirect Lighting is good for lighting a whole room.
