Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus movement, designed and built a house in Lincoln, Massachusetts. During the summer months, special night tours are offered from time to time. It was during one of these night tours that I learned that Gropius not only had a great sense of design, but of lighting as well. Several spaces extend out into the landscape either literally or visually through large windows. With outdoor lighting, the link to the outside was preserved and not lost in the dark.
Whether driving by a house, visiting it, or living inside, landscape lighting allows us to enjoy our homes and yards in another dimension the night. With landscape lighting, we can display our homes, landscape features, and plantings. We can be shown the way at sidewalks, paths, and stairs, and we can enhance security.
