2. Draw the room on graph paper and make several copies.

Once you have your space defined, it's time to design the layout. Draw it to scale on graph paper. It's important to note door and window locations, any outside walls, and the location of the toilet and tub drains.

If there is more than one entrance to the room, could one be eliminated to allow for more wall space? Is replacing a window or adding a skylight a possibility? Don't plan your room too tightly; allow a few extra inches for uneven walls and variations in fixtures. When you add a wall, remember to add approximately 5" for its depth.
