Residential wallpaper is manufactured in American rolls, based on imperial measure (yards, feet, and inches), and Euro rolls, based on metric measure (meters and centimeters). No matter how narrow or wide, the American roll will have approximately 35 square feet of wallpaper per roll, and the Euro roll will have approximately 28 square feet per roll. Wallpaper is packaged in multiple-roll bolts to eliminate waste. You should allow for at least 15% waste in trimming and, depending on repeat of pattern, possibly more. A large repeat that would require more waste allowance would be any vertical match over 18". For a more accurate roll estimate, consult with your installer after a wallpaper selection has been made.

Pattern number identifies the particular design and colorway of a pattern. The dye lot, or run number, represents a particular printing or production run. Different run numbers of the same pattern number indicate color, embossing, and/or finish, which could vary from number to number. Therefore, it is very important to inspect all wallpaper for both the correct pattern number and identical run numbers on each bolt needed for the project. A record of the pattern number and run number should be made in case additional rolls must be purchased to complete a project.
