As a professional photographer and artist for over three decades, Fred Reaves current work continues to be influenced by his early years as a painter and printmaker. As a painter, he was greatly inspired by architectural form and space as well as the old master painters and their use of single source directional light as an important compositional and subject element. These influences dominated his early work and have had a profound effect on the direction his work has taken over the years as an artist behind a camera. The newest tools of art developed through technology, specifically the computer and digital camera, have expanded his vision, imagination and capabilities even further. Now he can explore concepts and ideas that are far beyond what would have been technically possible even a few short years ago. Not only are these new tools expanding his vision photographically but have allowed him to explore new approaches to painting, illustration and image creation.
