Problem: A run of cabinetry closes up a small space.

Solution: Opt for a low-profile sink or a vanity with open storage.

There are a variety of pedestal and wall-mount sink styles that visually open up a small room. The pedestal sink takes on more of a sculptural effect in a small bath. Wall-mounted sinks open up floor space beneath, providing a visual breather. Plenty of cabinetry companies also make cabinets with dedicated open space to help ease the heavy look of solid vanities. If you have cabinets and they're in good shape, consider removing a pair of doors in favor of a light-colored fabric skirt to add softness to the room.
