The shade of the Mikado lamp is composed of two die-cut sheets of wood veneer, mounted to a pattern that lends torsion and dynamism. Like entwined feathers, the stamped strips create a pliable shape in the air that is charged with sensuality, creating an overall airiness and interesting plays of light and shadow. Designed by Miguel Herranz in 2005, the Mikado family of lamps won the 2007 Design Plus prize of "Light and Building" in Frankfurt and the 2008 Good Design Award.
