Learn about Jamie Beckwith's career
When you see Jamie Beckwith's interiors, it is no surprise to learn she spent time as a professional entertainer. The dancing and singing she did early in her career translate pretty readily into designs that are fluid and lyrical in their own right.
A Career Grounded in a Dream
It took the arrival of Jamie's first child to make her question whether the peripatetic life of an entertainer was one she wanted to continue to pursue. After some soul searching, she decided to turn to what had always made her heart soar. "I was always reading interior design books and art books," Jamie said. "I would sit with them for hours and dream."
What started out in a small home office soon grew to a full-fledged interior design studio and manufacturing enterprise that services "A"-list celebrities (Actually, more like "A-plus" list celebrities) and private and corporate clients across the U.S. and beyond.
An "Ah-Ha" Manufacturing Moment
In the course of her interior design work, Jamie is always looking for something new and fresh that no one has yet discovered. For one particular job she went on a hunt for a pattern of wood flooring that would not repeat along an entire expanse of floor. She had an "Ah ha" moment when she envisioned flooring as interlocking puzzle pieces, where each piece was similar to, but not identical to, the one next to it. Undaunted by the fact that no such product existed, Jamie rolled up her sleeves and set to work with the craftsmen right in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee to design and manufacture it herself. After a steep climb up a learning curve that would have felled a lesser spirit, Jamie launched the Jamie Beckwith Collection, a to-the-trade architectural product line of flooring tiles, wall panels, bathtubs and vessel sinks—all made of exquisite species of wood.

A Boundless Vision
More recently, Jamie has begun applying her product design and manufacturing know how to one-of-a-kind custom acrylic lighting. The unique, light-absorbing qualities of acrylic allow her to create dramatic pieces that, thanks to tiny, computer-aided LEDs, are capable of changing color at the owner's whim. "You can create a great ambience with lighting," Jamie says. "You can use it to create different moods. It's just another element that makes a house feel great."
And somehow, in the midst of all this product design and interior design, Jamie and her staff also find time to run a retail shop, Beckwith Interiors Showroom, which features mid-century furniture, antiques, and textiles. It's a wonderful way to showcase the talents of her team, and has turned out to be a great business model for Beckwith Interiors. "People see the esthetic in the showroom and want to emulate it," says Jamie. "It's been a wonderful selling point for our interior design services."
