Float to the Finish

Pull furnishings away from walls when possible. Seating lined up along walls can feel much like a waiting room, lacking in warmth and discouraging conversation.

This may be the only option in a small room, so angle a few pieces to minimize rigidity and encourage ease. In a large space, enhance intimacy and connection by "floating" pieces within the space as a cozy grouping. Use an area rug as a visual anchor for the seating area.
