Take your entry from mundane to urbane by dressing walls with wainscoting and crown molding. You can more easily create the look of a paneled wainscoting by applying moldings in squares or rectangles on the lower portion of the wall. Cap the treatment with a chair rail and paint the lower portion of the wall all one color. Choose white paint to make moldings pop against the upper wall color. (Read more about choosing a trim color here.)
To create cottage charm, surface upper walls with tongue-and-groove boards and create an X-motif wainscoting using flat 1x4s on the lower portion of the walls.
