The Best of the Best: NKBA Kitchen Winners

By Sharon Johnson

HomePortfolio salutes the winners of the 2013 National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) kitchen design competition. The competition was especially fierce, with leading designers from across North America competing for top honors. The winners each had something extra in their designs that elevated them from the fantastic to the überfabulous. Note that many of the winning kitchens incorporate glass through creative expression and innovative design, from a curved glass bar featuring LED lighting to a floating glass countertop. Get inspired as you scroll the slideshow to see the latest in award-winning kitchen design.

Large Kitchen: First Place

This spacious kitchen is ideal for the homeowners, accommodating her desire for a high level of cooking and baking functionality with his need for a "command center" computer work area and high-tech entertainment bar. The glass wall offers views of a private golf course that serves as the focal point of the space, while the large center island forms its heart. A barrel-vaulted ceiling adds another element of drama. A smaller second island is just right for an intimate meal for two. The adept blending of rift oak wood, stainless steel, concrete, and glass make this a first-place kitchen in every respect.
