Country Kitchens: Design Elements & Ideas

By Tiffany Adams

Purposeful, simple, and natural—these are three of the guiding principles behind the designs of the eight country- and rustic-style kitchens we've rounded up here. With rich wood, solid-rock details, and unassuming palettes, the charm and beauty of a classic kitchen allow the food prepared there and the friends who enjoy it to take center stage.

Naturally Refined

Hitting all the high notes of a modern rustic kitchen, this space features an apron—or farmhouse-style—sink, a stone-crafted range hood, exposed wooden rafters, and an abundance of rich wood cabinetry and flooring. Details such as the intricate scrollwork and the use of candles rather than traditional bulbs on the chandelier, as well as the carved slats of the ladder-back bar stools, indicate a sense of craftsmanship and are a nod to refined style without being overly ornate.
