Beth Weintraub

  • (415) 626-5349
Beth Weintraub studied writing, theatrical production, Intaglio etching and printmaking. Inspired by mass produced modular furniture of the 50s and 60s, Weintraub wanted to create a series of mix and match artworks, where the client becomes the designer. This eventually resulted in the creation of modular wall tiles, finished and ready to hang, no framing is needed. Beth takes a rigid, historical printmaking process into today's modern world. Rejecting the idea that printing is only for > MORE repetitious editions of identical paper images, Beth takes extra time to print editions that are varied in color, no two alike. The metal plates are all original, hand painted etchings. Photography and digital devices are not used. The set of printmaking techniques that Weintraub uses to create these beautiful, one of a kind botanical prints metal plates, are called 'Intaglio' and they include processes such as etching, engraving and aquatint. Etched plates are considered coveted and rare. Weintraub's mounted plates have been cleaned and polished with wax, to give them a protective, satin finish. They are no longer usable as printing plates. The modular approach to Weintraub's designs allow for flexibility in scale and design. Various metal and print images, which come in 20" squares, can be combined together in a collection to create a visual spread of color and shape as needed to fit the space. Any single image can be hand-painted and etched across a grid of metal squares, bringing large-scale imagery into the room for a look with high impact. "WallMetals", a new idea using interlocking rectangles, each available in ten assorted patterns, is another way clients can customize their choice of art.^ LESS
