Ellen Hallie Schiff

  • (516) 603-1931
Ellen Hallie Schiff began her oil painting about female attraction and power about a decade ago with smaller works depicting high-heeled shoes and then a series of lipsticks. The idea of combining the female Figure with abstract elements began to evolve in her paintings, and she embarked on her "Elemental ld" series of large paintings based on one composition treated a number of different ways. Along the way, she has evolved a style of painting and working that seems to suit her temperament. > MORE She paints very quickly, covering the entire canvas using a palette knife. She paints in short bursts of activity of 30-90 minutes. She lets the paint dry for a week or so, while considering where she might go with the work the next tim she approaches it. She repeats this process as many times as necessary in order to feel finished with the work. Ellen's wish, in part, is to create an emotional response in the viewer, and the emotion does not have to be the emotions she experienced while painting. Using the paint to help communicate that which cannot be spoken has become endlessly fascinating and thoroughly addictive.^ LESS
