In 1975, Vermont Castings began manufacturing traditional wood stoves as a response to the 1970s energy crisis. The original model, the Defiant, is now in the permanent Smithsonian Collection. Today, the company offers a wide variety of wood stoves, fireplace systems, and outdoor products with amenities such as ash pans and standard radiant ceramic burners for all gas stoves. Each piece is individually cast at the foundry in Vermont and then hand-assembled and finished in a variety of porcelain enamels.
